I want to have access to the internet on an Ipad while traveling. I have wifi at home. I do not use a cell phone. I'd like to use internet service sporatically - maybe a month or two at a time.
Is that possible? Which internet provider? Which I Pad do I need?

It depends on where you're located. In the U.S., for example, Starbuck's and McDonald's tend to have free WiFi available. Your iPad could use it within those stores.
All iPads contain WiFi capability.
If you do not have WiFi where you will be travelling then you can get a 3G iPad and there are some "plans" which allow you to purchase it a month at a time instead of committing to a year when you only need it for a month or 2
Depending on where you will be staying, virtually every hotel or motel has wifi, as noted, most fast food restaurants have wifi also.
