my imac clock keeps going out of sync ?

i run mountain lion and have several times tried to have apple support fix it but no luck has anyone else encountered this problem? If I reboot it fixes itself for a while then i will come back to the machine and it is out of sync again.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

System preferences are set for automatic and it is the clock and calander they just stop I do not think it is display only as my emails have the frozen time and date on them if i create a new mail item during a freeze. If i reboot the machine it resets.

I was wondering if it might be something odd in the sleep mode ?

Hope you can help

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Date/Time problem in Safe Mode...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

PRAM RESET

Shut down the computer.

Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Turn on the computer.

Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

Release the keys.
