I need to know where/what to install so my new printer can be installed.

I have the MacBook Pro 2009. I just bought a printer & it won't install because "this HP software is'nt compatible w/ your version of Mac OS X". I need at least Mac OS X v10.6-v10.7. I have the OS X v10.5.8. No updates are showing. Where/what do Install? I keep going in circles with the options I 'think' are going to help.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575

OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

and in the UK:

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

but nobody knows for how long it will be available.

I need to know where/what to install so my new printer can be installed.
