I hope to drop earthink mail, but need to know how to add another mail system to my mailbox. Gmail does not seem to work with 10.4.11 mail, what would, and how to install it? Thanks

Unfortunately, there are problems - like where to find this IMAP in Google mail prefs.
I skipped this step and started filling out the info in Mac mail, but don't know the name of Google's SMTP
which is required.
Loginto gMail, click the gear & choose settings, choose Forwarding and POP/IMAP...
Thanks, Aqua - I found everything, and changed incoming and outgoing, but still couldn't send a gmail to myself and have it come into the Mac Mail account. When you enable IMAP in Google mail, several other settings options appear. I didn't change anything.
Maybe I'll try this week-end when my head is clearer.
