CPU temp is very high while running in window 8

Windows 8 is not supported, there are no drivers. Live with it or remove Windows 8.

It seems possible that drivers could affect the temperature. "Live with it" is not helpful if you don't know what the possible consequences are. Intel processors have thermal protection so they will usually throttle off before heat damage. But at 5% usage it sounds like the SSD may be the problem? The thermal protection is not as good for SSD memory components. Even though it seems unlikely (SSD's mimic SATA drives) there may be a battle going on in the SSD managers. I would carefully monitor temperature when you are in the OS X side and compare it to the Win 8 readings (are you sure the temp/fan reading are accurate?). If the Win 8 side stays hot you probably should wait a few weeks until there are more bleeding edge reports on Win 8 / Bootcamp (I ran Win 8 Preview on bootcamp on a MacPro with only a few problems).

Win 8 Preview was not the same as the current Windows 8. Windows 8 is not supported, Read the first item here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899.

So it does not matter what you do. There are no Windows 8 drivers. You can tinker, hack, modify, etc. but the fact remains that there are no drivers. So if a driver is required for grahics, power control, fan control, keyboard, wifi, etc, etc, you are out of luck. There are many posts here of hacks and work arounds but some of these work and some do not. It seems like a lot of chance and work to take to get to a system that may work or not.

Use Parallels or VMware or Virtualbox to run a W8 Virtual Machine: they have the drivers in them.

It is either Magic that several users report that Win 8 works in BootCamp with only minor irritations, or it is the fact that the Win 8 drivers are very similar to the Win 7 drivers. You can believe in the magic explanation if you want to, I favor the tech answer. The bottomline is that for at least some users Win 8 is running in BootCamp without hacks. 10.8.3 download the Boot Camp 5.x drivers and install those.

Macs tend to run hotter in Windows. That has always been true though some systems do better and with more recent drivers from Apple.

I have dozen 'tips' on various issues in the past for Windows 8 and MacBook Air and others. Now some of those were addressed with new drivers and even new firmware.

To get your fans to work on your Macbook Pro.

Shut down you computer. After it is shut down press Command+Option+Control+Shift and then press the power button. Nothing should happen - your screen should remain blank.

The computer should Not start to boot up at this point. After you have done this. Release the 4 buttons and press the power button once again.

Use the Option Key to get back into your bootcamp Partition of Windows 7.

The fans should now properly spin up when your computer starts to get hot.

I personally searched for hours for this same solution then finally resorted to calling apple. It was a very simple thing to do for something so important as cooling. The key combination resets your hardware settings in your bios for the fans. My fans now correctly function.

MacBook Air 2012

Core i7 upgrade

You get a choice of three different CPUs. The Core i5-3317U comes standard in the 11, the i5-3427U comes with the 13, and both systems can be upgraded to the Core i7-3667U.

There is a known bug with the upgraded CPU under Windows. Turbo Boost is disabled under Windows on the 3667U, although it's fully functional under OS X. Apple is aware of the problem and I'd expect a fix at some point, but there's no indication of when.

Sometimes all the Boot Camp drivers were not getting installed properly and had to go back and individually run some of the drivers.

This may or may not be possible as it seems to be Apple has changed the installer package... so take with grain of salt.

Also an issue with administrative accounts.

when trying to launch the "Boot Camp Control Panel", but I just stumpled upon a solution.

I created a new Windows user, that was not Administrator. When I logged in Boot Camp updateded something and asked me to restart the computer.

After restarting and logging in with my new user, I could start the "Boot Camp Control Panel" configure tap to click and use F1-F12 as function keys.

Then I changed the new account to Administrator and now the control panel can not be startet again... but my settings remained... only on the new user only though.
