totally Erase a DVD+RW

Question

totally Erase a DVD+RW

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to totally erase a DVD+RW disk so i can burn an iDVD movie on to it? i have tried disk utility to no avail, anyone?

Hello,

To completely erase a DVD+RW disk, you will need to use Disk Utility.
Follow these simple steps below:

1) Insert the DVD+RW disk you wish to completely erase.

2) Open Disk Utility.

3) Select the the DVD+RW on the left.

4) Click the "Erase" tab.

5) Click Erase below.

Hi,

It says its read only on both of my DVDs, the erase button is blanked out so you can't click on it, any other ideas?

Hi,

I know why, its because my powerbooks superdrive only takes DVD-RW not +RW is there any way of making it so it accepts both?

If you burned the DVD+RW on your PowerBook, then you should be able to erase it. However, if you did not and your PowerBook does not support it, then you cannot erase the DVD on your PowerBook.

Danny,

In Disk Utility select the OPTICAL DRIVE itself - not the disk you want to erase: Now "erase" should become available.

Hi Kay,

I swapped the +RW disk for -RW disks and its still playing up, it wont read the blank disk, its annoying me now, is it possible that its not working because its from america? i have set it to region 2 disk, any suggestions?

No- that's not the reason: All user burnable disks will be "region-free".

But unlike DVD +/-Rs DVD +/-RWs must exactly meet the drives speed rating: e.g. you can't use DVD +/-RWs 4x on a drive that's only cabable of RW 2x

where does it say the write speed of my drive, it is the
MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816, any ideas?

I suppose that it will write RW at 1x maybe 2x max.

Also take a look at System Profiler: Which media are listed or launch terminal and type
drutil info

It means no media available.

But what is listed at DVD-Write:?
Also - please try that terminal command.

So you're limited to DVD -RW (1x or maybe 2x I suppose)

What does your disk's packaging say regarding speed index.

It says in a table like this

DVD-RW 1x Speed 2x Speed 4x Speed
Media read/write read/write read/write

1x yes yes yes yes yes yes
2x yes no yes yes yes yes
4x yes no yes no yes yes

It means nothing to me :-S
