Oh I spent a few hours searching on Google and I am afraid that's not so simple infortunately...

The first link interested me a lot (DIEC2 should be a larger file than the Apple's one) but as Megaupload has been off the DIEC2 .ditionary file is no more available.

By the way I have downloaded the iPhone DIEC2 version, but as far as I see I don't find any Mac desktop file to download. "Only" online dictionary like most of the links I have found if not .exe files... And I am looking at a .dictionary compatible file as the dictionary.app is so easy and rapid to use.

I am still searching

Apple doesn't let peaople download some .dictionary files somewhere from the Apple servers?

No, Apple doesn't do that. If Apple buys the rights to distribute a reference dictionary, it is only available in the OS. Currently they provide English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. You can ask for more via

I have not seen a Catalan module for dictionary.app anywhere so far, and it appears that the people who own the copyrights for dictionaries have been pretty effective in removing unauthorized dictionaries from the internet.

The above is for Reference dictionaries. If you are looking for Catalan spellchecking, that is a totally different matter.

The link in robolz post works but the dictionary is a bit old (2007) and the support page from OpenOffice is deprecated.

The newer (2008) dictionary is available in the new OpenOffice extensions website.

Download the package (which is an .odt file). Change the file extension to .zip. Open the .zip file and you will find the catalan.aff and catalan.dic files. Copy the catalan.aff and catalan.dic files to /Library/Spelling/ (admin rights required) and go to System Settings, Keyboard, Text, Spelling, click drop down menu, select "Set Up ...", enable the new "catalan (Library)" option at the end of the list, and drag it up the list to the order of precedence that you desire. Spell checking for Catalan should work now across Mac OS X. Hope this helps somebody out there.

I've found the solution!
Go to: https://www.softcatala.org/wiki/Projectes/Catalanitzador_de_Softcatal%C3%A0

There you'll find: https://www.softcatala.org/wiki/Rebost:Catalanitzador_de_Softcatal%C3%A0User uploaded file
With that application you can automatically install de Català corrector in the system, I believe you'll find it then at your Biblioteca/Spelling/ca.aff

I hope this will help you all 🙂
