Q: Can I replace the ethernet card on my Feb 2005 eMac?

I realize that my Feb 2005 eMac (CRT-17") workhorse drops the internet (cable ethernet) very often- can run fine for 2 hours then drops the connection 3 times in 15 minutes.  IS IT POSSIBLE to repair this or get a new "ethernet" card without spending a small fortune (i.e. for less than $200 and hopefully a lot less…)??

OR:  Add WiFi to this Mac, but that is not my first choice as it is the furthest away from my WiFi points (plus I have ethernet cable running directly to this eMac and it works great for other Macs when tested.  Just this eMac that is dropping the connection).

Thanks and regards,

Steve

    Just to double check...

At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>USB, what is reported for that port & drive as far as speed?

Well I see all this 12mb/sec stuff - which indicates USB 1.1 --- BUT then I go to my May 2010 MacBook Pro-13" and that definitely is USB 2.0 and yup, everything says speed:  12 mb/sec on my 2010 MBP as well! --- so I do believe my eMac is USB 2.0 as it says on the specs--  Here's a copy of System Profiler info for the 3 USB Ports on the eMac.

Tomorrow I will see if the hama-guy replies.  I will also try to connect the USB2-ethernet adapter to my MBP (that shouldn't cause a probem, should it?)-- and test the speeds.

Hama wrote back saying that even with USB2 their fastest download speed is about 6 mbps.  They will come-out with a USB3 to ethernet adapter in March 2013 – but not yet sure of the download speeds possible.  That won't help my 8 year old eMac - but might be interesting for a future MBA purchase!  Not sure if the Apple USB to Ethernet adapter for the MB Air is USB3 or not…  Should be but…

OK so this post's question basically resolved.
