i got my broken iphone replaced with a new refurbished one from apple, and was wondering if it would be locked to my service provider after i put the sim card in or will it be unlocked since when i got it, i didnt have it unlock to use it. and apple didnt ask which service provider i was using.

Probably yes. If it was locked before, it will probably relock again. What led you to believe it wouldn't? Only the carriers are able to unlock your phone.
i thought it wouldnt be locked because i got a refurbished iphone from the apple store and not my service provider. i know my old iphone was locked because it was purchased from rogers, but the refurbished one was bought from the apple store.
Do you want/need an unlocked phone?
i want to make sure the iphone 4 i have now is unlocked so i can give it to a friend
Sorry, if you got the phone from the APple store and that was the refurbished one, then it is most likely unlocked.

Did you mean it is most likely locked? When Apple replaces an iPhone the replacement will generally be locked to the same carrier as the original phone. As part of the replacement the genius copies the account settings from the old to the new phone.

But your original post(s) were not so clear.
So if your original phone WAS locked and the LOCKED one got replaced from the APPLE store...then there is a 100% chance it IS locked.
