Is there a way to use Strike through text on imessages or text messages? I know you can bold, underline or italic in emails, but am curious about strike through. Sarcasm in texting can be hard to pick up on otherwise.

Haha, I'm surprised no-one is getting what you mean by using strike thru and how funny that can be when used correctly. Thanks for asking the question bc I get it, its hilarious and I wish we could use it in texts.

I just did this by creating the text elsewhere (on a PC with Microsoft Word), then mailing it to myself, picking up the mail on my phone, then copy/paste, A lot of work Easy.

And of course I just realized I could have done it via Pages, which is now included in iOS.

I see no way to format text that way in Messages, but why not use emoticons from the built in Emoji keyboard?

If you have selected the Emoji keyboard yet, Settings>General>Keyboard>Keyboards>Add New Keyboard>Emoji.

You can switch from one keyboard to another one by tapping on the globe icon at the bottom left of the keyboard - next to the ?123 key.

That doesn't work with the Messages app. But, hopefully, in the two years since they posed the question, the OP has figured out how to convey nuance with just words.

Do a Google search for strikethrough generator and find a generator site that allows you to type in the phrase or word and also to highlight and copy the results. Most generators allow the ios devices to highlight the results easily, but not all. You can then paste the result in the iMessage you are sending. It appears to work!

It's not the fastest and most elegant solution, but I hope this helps...

You're absolutely right of course. I just tried to reproduce this and realized I was trying to send email, not a text. Messages app is plain text only. However, if I really wanted to do this in Messages for some reason, I'd probably send the strikeout words as an image. A lot of work, I agree. But I also see the humor in using strikeout text. 🙂

I originally found this post while looking for a way to do this in Mail. Figured if I found an answer I'd post it to mislead help anyone else who also found the post. I guess I'll post again in a few years when Apple adds rich text to Message. 😉
