wifi:No hardware installed on macbook pro?

I have been having an issue with my wifi hardware within my macbook pro (2011), it seems to have been deleted/modified from my system some how. When I click on the wifi button at the top of my screen in the drop down menu it says "wifi: no hardware installed". This is odd because I've never deleted it or altered it in any way. This problem occured while I still had Snow leopard and even after I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, the problem still exhists. When I go to System Information it appears that the wifi is in working order and there.

Anyone know of a way to reinstall wifi hardware/software onto the system?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
