Canon Selphy CP900 software on my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2?

I've installed the driver provided by Canon on their website for Mountain Lion, but even when I insert the disk, I cannot seem to install the software required for the printer to be used properly. It's also supposed to be wireless, but I can only seem to get the printer to be recognized when it is plugged in via USB.

Can anyone give me more detailed instructions on how to install the necessary software?

Thanks very much.

For starters, do not waste your time and download the Canon Driver update that Eric Root has linked to. The CP900 is not included with that update.

With regards to the wireless connection, have you already connected the CP900 to your wireless access point? (also known as wireless router). Page 31 onwards to the CP900 Printer User Guide runs you through the required steps, which is performed via the buttons on the printer - no additional software is required.

Once you have the printer connected to your wireless access point you can then use the SELPHY Photo Print application, that you would have installed from the supplied CD, to print images.

With regards to wireless printing, is the CP900 showing Infrastructure or Ad Hoc on its LCD? I ask because you can print from iOS in Ad Hoc mode but you need to have the CP900 connected to a wireless access point (router) for printing (known as Infrastructure).

As for USB printing, in testing just now, I printed an image in PNG format from Preview without any filter error. If you had any version of the CP900 driver installed on this Mac prior to installing the most recent v6.2 driver, then I would suggest you remove the printer from Print & Scan and then open Finder and navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon and trash the SELPHYCP folder. If you also have a CP folder at this location, trash it also. Then restart your Mac and after logging back in, install the v6.2 driver and see if this lets you add the printer and print.

I found the instructions here :

<http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/contents/SG/EN/8201981200.html>

to be effective, particularly step 3-4. User uploaded file Select the printer named "Canon CP910"(type: "cnybmscp"), User uploaded file and click [Add]

I hadn't previously selected the 'cnybmscp' type, and had been using the printer listed under 'nearby printers' - and that hadn't worked. The cnybmscp printer is listed under the 'Add Other Printer or Scanner...' option when pressing the '+' button - it takes a moment to appear though, and appears below one called 'Bonjour', after about 10 seconds.

I then use iPhoto and select the correct size paper ('L' in my case).

My original issue was that the printer was complaining that the paper and ink sizes were incorrect - but that is misleading, so you can probably ignore that and just try to get the cnybmscp printer set up properly, so that you can select the correct size on the computer's print dialog. Note that, afaik, it is quite difficult to mis-match the ink and paper since they are bought together - you'd kind of have to do it deliberately, unless you have a load of them lying around and aren't organised 🙂

Then I rebooted both the Mac and the CP900. My Mac is connected to the CP900 through wireless in ad hoc mode. But nothing will print. And in Preferences/Printers it shows the printer but says it's not connected.

I have been able to successfully print from the iPhone app.

As I mentioned in a previous reply further up, you can print from iOS in Ad Hoc mode but for the Mac you need to have the CP900 connected to a wireless access point (router) for printing (known as Infrastructure).

And with regards to the Printer showing not connected in the Print & Scan preference pane, if this is the printer that was created when you had the CP900 connected to the Mac via USB, then it will show not connected when you have disconnected the USB cable.

To get be able to print from the Mac to the CP900 you need a wireless router. If you then connect the CP900 via WiFi to this router, you can then create a new printer entry in Print & Scan for the wireless connected CP900.

The cups folder exists in /var/spool/, but I've never had a need to change anything here. You may have read some users modifying files in /etc/cups/, but with the error you are getting I think it is more related to the Canon files rather than core files.

Could you open System Information (Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left sidebar. The right pane will show the CP900 information - you may need to select it from the top right pane if you have more than one printer installed. Can you select all of the CP900 information, copy and paste here so I can compare with what I have.

With regards to the network printer, I don't think that you add it using one of the IP protocols. I added mine by selecting the Default view - not the IP view. The printer took a while to appear, but when it did it showed "cnybmscp" in the Kind column. I selected it and the USB menu automatically changed to Canon CP900.

So if you remove this printer you have created and select to add again and have the Default view selected, do you see the CP900? And if you do and you select it and then Add this printer, does this print without the same error as the USB connection?

Thanks for supplying that information. Your printer settings are the same as I have for the USB connected printer.

I can generate a similar error to what you are getting if I leave the paper size at Custom, which for some reason appears to be the default size the applications like Preview show when connected to the printer. If I change the page size to 4"x6", then it will print.

But this is the only way I can get a similar error. All other printing from Preview works okay for me. I will try a few more things to see if I can get it to error like yours and report back.

I think perhaps what I'll do, considering I won't be doing a lot of printing of photos, is email a photo over to myself on my iphone when I want to print one, and just print with the iphone app. That is a very smooth process.

I use the Photo Collage app to position the photo into a 3x2 ratio frame and then use Canon's Easy Photo-Print app to send to print. Any suggestions on any other iphone app to prepare the photo for sending to print is appreciated.

Everybody: I appreciate the great help you've given me.

Similar problems here with Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I installed the new drivers from Canon, but big issues remain.

SELPHY Photo Print doesn't see my CP900 though it's turned on and connected to our network, and printing from iOS works just fine. I can't print wirelessly from any other application on my Mac either.

I am unable to add the printer via USB, I get an error saying '"Filter" failed. ???

I am out of my wits. Does anyone have suggestions how to resolve this?

Thank you PAHU! I did these steps but wasn't successful in the end. The driver installs fine, I can add the printer without problems, but when printing it hangs for a minite and then I get an error that looks like this:

I start to wonder, are there any other files I should remove before a driver reinstall? I seem to recall in another post someone pointed into the hidden var/ directory, but I can't find that post anymore.

Thanks for helping!

Thank you PAHU, your help is very much appreciated! After much tinkering I was ready to surrender and return this printer. What gives me hope is the fact that your CP900 is working for you. Here is the requested info, I hope it is useful:
