imac DVD burner not working

My DVD burner will burn DVDs. It can read commercial CD and DVD but when I try to burn a home made movie in iDVD it rejects all formats of disks whether DVD- or DVD+. It will not read read DVDs I have previously burned on this computer. It will read CDs I have burned on this computer. I bought a cleaning disk from Staples. Since the Staples cleaning disk the DVD drive began reading commercial DVDs. I lasted burned a DVD on December 10, 2012 less than a month ago without any issue. Do I need a beter cleaner? Solutions?

Memorex and not recommended either!

2-30 seconds of cleaning should suffice. You should aso try a SMC reset followed by a restart:
