Where have all the Notes and Safari bookmarks gone?

I don't know if it has to do with the fact that there was a recent iTunes upgrade, but I did sync to it with my iPad and now all of my Notes and Safari bookmarks have disappeared. This happened on the computer I use at work (a PC).

At home I use a Mac and am thinking I'll hold off on the sync thinking someone out there can tell me if I should do something to make them reappear again (could they be in my Mac?).

Also, why would they just disappear? I tried resetting Safari and even rebooting the iPad but no dice.

Thanks! Eric

stuff like that disappears, when you change your sync defaults. For example your notes can be synced by your e-mail provider, or icloud. If you recently enabled icloud your older notes can be found on your old e-mail server, somewhere next to inbox, you will find notes on your PC. If you went from icloud, then your notes are in icloud.com in notes app.

Actually I've never changed sync defaults or synced notes or Safari to e-mail. Also, I've never used iCloud since I so far have been unable to figure out how it works. I've looked at Notes in my Outlook at work but the ones from iPad aren't there. I've looked at my Safari on my work computer and the iPad bookmarks are not there (which is good since they are NSFW). Is there any place else these items can be? I didn't know that just a simple sync would erase everything, I thought syncing was a way of backing things up lol.

suppose to a key word. When everything works as suppose to ?😉

Reality is your computer with outlook had one set of those notes

your phone had the other. One of them is gone.

If you never had icloud before, the only place your notes would be is on the server of your

e-mail provider for the phone.

So go settings - mail contacts calendars- accounts

Then go online on the computer, and login to servers of those providers.

Yahoo for example keeps notes folder, just under inbox.

Book mars are most likely just gone.

There is a chance that your notes are also inside of your back up, but the process of restore is going

to have you lose all info between last back up and now. You can check how old your back up is in

itunes. Edit- preferences- devices :list of back ups.

It's actually an iPad I'm working with. Well, I went to my AOL account on my computer and the Notes area says 'Empty'. How do I get to Edit - Preferences - Devices - List of Backups? I don't see it anywhere in iTunes once I hook up the iPad.

Also, all this time when I've been syncing I've always made sure that 'Replace Information on this iPad' has been unchecked for Notes and Bookmarks (only Contacts and Calendars were checked), so I don't see how this could have happened.

"Edit - Preferences - Devices - List of Backups? I don't see it anywhere in iTunes once I hook up the iPad"

in new itunes you have to click little box in top left, click show menu bar. Edit is going to be second from the left in windows.

you got that right, but you know by now, somehow it did happen.

You are not getting them from there, you just verifying if you have a back up with notes (you will have to check the date and try to remember if had those at that date and time.) Then you have two ways to go - the apple way and third party way.

1 Apple way - restore from back up (downside is you going to lose changes to your phone since the last back up)

be careful - not to overwrite last back up when you connect your phone, I would find and copy back up file just in case to external drive. You can find location of your actual back up file using that article

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946

if you expand where it says "where back ups are stored on the computer"

how to restore from itunes back up here

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

2. not Apple way.- there are programs for windows that allow you to look inside of actual back up file.

Google is your friend for that one.

If you don't like my results just adjust search to your liking.

I see on the home computer (a Mac) that there is a backup from 12/23/12. So I guess there's a chance my Bookmarks and Notes would be there?

I guess the procedure would be to make sure there is no automatic sync once I hook up the iPad, then hook it up and click the boxes that say "Replace info on the iPad," the two boxes being Notes and Bookmarks?

You do try that, but it has nothing to do with what we are talking about. But try that first. Please before you connect your device find back up location and copy actual back up to external drive. Once you try that see if it works and if it does not and you still want to restore from back up instructions are here.
