Son's itouch full "other" taking up 3.2gb
4th gen itouch 8 gb.
I've read where 3.2gb in other on the itouch is not normal.
What can I do to correct this? He's hoping we won't lose all progress in games, etc.
Anyone able to help?

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files. Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
To restore from backup see:
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see the following. This will lose app date unless you can transfer it by::
So we have the backup. On itunes, however, there is only a button that says "restore" Not a "restore from backup"
If I click this will it immediately move me to a restoration or prompt me with more questions?
Found it. Let's see what happens... thanks for prompt reply!
To restore from backup see the restore topic of:
If you restore from iTunes backup all the app have to be in the iTunes library since the backup does not included synced media like apps and music.
Okay... so if I backup to icloud would that make a difference? 🙂
No. It is saying that the firmware will not be reinstalled.

Now I'm getting this prompt. Does this mean we're heading back to factory settings? Sorry, novice here.
Really no difference if you restore from iCloud backup. Not that none of your non-iTunes purchased media like songs ripped from CDs are restored.
Gotcha. So bear with me here.
I like to know what I'm doing before I do it.
If I hit restore from backup, do I then have to put the apps back onto the itouch from itunes? In doing so, will they still hold the progress or will it be like they're brand new? If so, what a bummer. 1 1/2 years worth of effort down the drain on some! eeek!
Thanks again.
Before you restore the iPod get the apps in the iTunes library by either:
how to transfer file from ipod touch to...: Apple Support Communities
or
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Then restore from backup. The apps and app data will be restored to the iPod.
okay... for some reason I'm still confused as I thought restore from backup did not retore apps/data... but I'll look into and see what I can do. Thanks.
Everything is synche and backed up to itunes already. maybe there is another step I'm missing.
Thanks for the help.
