Why does my macbook pro 15 inch mid 2012 only charge to 97%?

Whenever my macbook pro is plugged in on max battery (The power cable sign on the battery icon), it displays as only 97%. Anyone have an idea why?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You should see it read 100%, but when it reaches that level, the power adapter does provide electricity to operate the MBP but no longer charges the battery.

Thus the battery then starts to slowly discharge till it drops to the 95%/94% level (until that point, it will say 'Charged' on the battery menu bar icon drop down menu) and then it will be charged again by the power adapter until it reaches 100% again.

So long as you keep the power adapter connected, this cycle will be repeated. This is normal operation.

Ciao.
