Risks - reinstalling Apple Mobile Device Service

When I follow this procedure (HT1747, how to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service), is there any risk to my iTunes music, photos, apps, podcasts - and especially my settings? Where are these contents located on my computer? Should I back them up elsewhere to avoid risk? Thanks.
