Not advised. Macs are picky, and can behave strangely if using RAM of incorrect speed.
I am using a Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2010. If i currently have a 4GB ram (2x2GB) of 1066Mhz and want to upgrade to 8GB ram (2x4GB) or 1600Mhz should i? I need to do this because i'm checking my activity window and it says i constantly exhaust all my 4GB memory and even constantly use an extra 5GB virtual memory. Sorry i'm not very good at these computer stuff, but given all that i have mentioned, should i upgrade?
And oh yeah, the reason i want to upgrade using the 1600Mhz memory is because all the shops in my country say they dont have any 1066Mhz memory available. Thank you in advanced.
WafiM, what country are you in?
Not sure about a MacBook, but I've got PC3-10666 (1333MHz) running on an iMac that has a memorty spec of PC3-8500 and it works just fine. I installed 32GB of it no problem... this is on a late 2009 27-inch iMac w a 2.8GHz core i7 processor...
Even the "About" menu on the system shows that the memory is 1333MHz and that all 4 banks have 8GB chips running...
There are times when the voltage and other specs are very
important to the application of correct parts in a computer;
some are more critical than other. Low voltage chips in a
portable computer of correct spec matter when the power
situation is based on battery life and rationing of resources.
To compare one incident as an overall success, in an old
thread, is not an example for others to warrant following.
Be sure the correct spec RAM for your product is from a
reputable source, tested, and guaranteed correct; then
when an issue arises, chances improve it wasn't the RAM.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
