Display pictures according to generation and not modification date?

On my MacPro computer, all the pictures are displayed according to the generation date. This gives a nice chronological order of the pictures. When I synchronize with my iPad or iPhone, however, the pictures are displayed according to the modification date and no longer when they were made. This disorganizes the chronological order. Is there a way to set in iPhoto that the pictures are displayed according to the date when made and not to the date when modified?
