How do I fix imessage on my iPod touch 4g?

I have just sent my cousin a long text message with emoji and all of a sudden the screen froze. Then the app closed by itself. So now when I click on the app, it opens then closes a few seconds later without showing anything. I've tried turning off and on my imessage but it's not working still and I've turn my iPod odd and back on and it's still not working.

I have the iPod touch 4g 32gb with the updated iOS 6.

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
