Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

Further information here:

and their FAQ’s:

However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at

Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:

Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality.

Klaus, the original poster asked about 10.6.8 -- jre 6. You posted the answer for 10.7 (java 7), but then at the end you also posted the answer for 10.6.8.

So, ridahrussy, you need to follow the instructions that Klaus linked to at the end

Can't see any reference to Java 7 in the original question.

You're missing the point. Java 7 is available from Oracle, but only applies to Lion (10.7.3 and above). Nothing WRT to Oracle and Java applies to Snow Leopard installations. For the latest JRE for SL, one needs to install the Java for Mac OS X v10.6 Update 11. The referenced documents you cited involve restoring JRE 6 for Lion and above installations.
