IPad Mini Wi Fi antenna not strong enough to reach router

I just purchased an IPad Mini and it seems that the antenna is not strong enough to reach the router that is located the part of the house that my landlord lives in. My PC doesn't have any problem with connecting. Has anyone else ran into this issue and is there any way to fix it? My landlord is unwilling to upgrade the router.
