Is this in the manual somewhere? The manual doesn't say anything about the holding down control.
I've had a quick look:
Not specifically in the Autopuch section, other than you can adjust the locators in a similar way to Cycle locators
http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=14%26se ction=15%26tasks=true
The Cycle locators section does not mention it
But
The Moving regions section does mention it:
http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=13%26se ction=13%26tasks=true
You could also use the Marquee tool to set the Autopunch locators.

Also I'm having trouble with fades. I'm using the fade tool, but it always start at a certain point. And I want the fade to be less than where it always initially starts. Is the something I can do to control the whole fade? Is there something I should be holding down while dragging the fade tool?
You might fair better to post this as a new topic, but one solution would be to zoom in, another to set the fade length numerically in the Region parameters box in the Inspector.
