can ipad mini hook up to tv?

I just got ipad mini for Christmas and not sure if its possible to hook it up to tv to watch movies i rented in itunes, can I do that? also what about hooking up iphone 4s to tv? what cables or adapters are needed, same premise, not sure if i am asking the right question

If you have a TV equiped with an HDMI port, yes. You don't need an Apple TV device, just the AV adapter (available in the Apple store) and an HDMI cable. The Apple TV is great, btw, I got one for Christmas, and would recommend it for a numbert of reason, but strictly speaking it isn't neccesary for what you looking at doing.

James Ward4 advice is best. Don't need Apple TV.


Be careful renting movies from Apple. Some people (including me) can't watch Apple rented movies because of the HDCP problems. Getting videos from anywhere else (Netflix, Amazon) seems to be fine for me.


I suggest testing one Apple rental to see if it works. If not, get a refund on the movie rental.
