I have had my mac for over a week and would like to now migrate my old computers files - - i have the backup file saved as a .bkf and when trying to use the migration manager, the mac book pro is not recognizing the file.

Is there another way to migrate my .bkf file

The BKF file is created by the Windows backup utility, and is a MS propietary format that OS X can't read.

Do you still have your old computer and a spare ethernet cable?  If so, you can easily migrate the files directly from it using Migration Assistant.
