Lonely Planet best in travel won't download

I got this book as part of the 12 days of christmas however it will not download on to my iphone and will not transfer via itunes sync. It keeps saying it's downloading on the phone and then says I need to download it via the store check available downloads but I don't know how to do this on my phone as I can't find the check available updates. Can anyone help me - or at least tell me how I can stop it from downloading (not that I actually think it is) thanks in advance.
