I have an iphone 3g with IOS 6.0.1. I want to make it into a hotspot. How can I do this ? I understand that there is a way to do this for free.

Im assuming you have an iphone 3gs, since you posted your running ios 6.0.1, also, hotspot is a carrier paid feature, and you will need to contact your carrier to see if they offer that service and then purchase a hotspot plan with them.

System requirements for Personal Hotspot.

As the article says, your carrier has to support the feature and it has to be enabled on your plan.
