How to develop websites without flash

How can one develop a good website (i.e. make it look the same as a previous Flash version) but without Flash. I have a website that looks good on all browsers except when viewing on any apple product. It is a real pain....

How can one develop a website that looks the same regardless of the browser and / or machine it is viewed on?

Thanks

Since you don't mention iWeb, I take it that you are using some other method of creating sites.

Dropdown menus are fairly simple and can use pure CSS...

... the more complicated ones use some javascript as well.

Most slideshows use javascript and there are a lot to choose from...

... but this is the future using pure CSS...

Nowadays its normal to use HTML5 to get movies on a website with fallback to flash for older, out of date, browsers....

This is the latest version of flowplayer which is very easy to setup...

Its worth taking the time to learn how to do this rather than use YouTube which is kind of tacky and seems to contain more and more advertising....

Vimeo is better - especially if you pay to remove the branding...

Here's how you can make them popup from a text or image link using jQuery...

iWeb used to be part of the iLife apps which came with every Mac. Its been dropped by Apple and its not really worth your while paying for it.

There is a good choice of apps available for Mac for web design. See this page for a download of iWeb alternatives...

Also have a look at this one...

... or wait for iWeb's replacement...

There's quite a few considerations involved when trying to get websites to work properly on all devices.

You either need to have a different version of your site for mobile devices or create a responsive design which can be viewed on any device.

Here's a responsive design using jQuery Mobile which showcases a lot of the features...

This is a more conventional design showing some of the techniques...

Note how the navigation changes on smaller screens to one that can be easily finger tapped on the Home page only with a "Home" button and a "Back to the Top" button on the other pages.
