Ive had my Mac for just over a year, but in the last few months the fan has got very loud and the laptop will become hot to touch with a few minutes even when laid on a hard surface, and the problem i think is getting slowly worse. I have also recently updated the software, any advice? or if this is normal? or do i need to take it to be looked at. thanks x

Download from the Internet iStat Pro. It will shown you the internal temperatures and fan speeds that your MBP generates. Also look at Activity Monitor with 'All Processes' selected and note any applications that may be using a lot of the CPU%.
Post back indicating the applications that are open and the temperatures that iStat pro shows.

Istat pro shows temperatures are
mac 32degrees
cpu 88degrees

Please do me a favor and post images of your Activity Monitor and iStat pro per my example. I like pictures and it lessens misunderstandings (one picture is worth 100 bytes).

No good. Click on % CPU in Activity Monitor and repost. That will show what processes are taking up the most resources.

Hi. For your Activity Monitor screenshot, if you click the %CPU column to sort, and repost we could see which activity is the culprit. In the existing screen shot, it is sorted by process name.
Select "RimAlbumArtDameon" and select Quit Process.
even when i select force quit, it keeps coming back. do i have a virus? is this making my laptop hot and loud? x
Your screen shot may or may not be totally informative. In the % CPU field click on it to get the display to show from high to low. I detect that there may be some thing hidden in your last screen shot. (The triangle should be pointed down.)

When you get the next screen shot run an Apple Hardware Test. You may have a bad sensor.

ITunes 10.5.2: RimAlbumArtDaemon is crippling my MBP
Not a virus apparently (depends what you consider a virus I guess) but part of BlackBerry Manager, uninstall and see if you can find an update, I guess.
