What happens when you placed the iPod in recovery mode as the article said? If you got it in recovery mode iTunes will say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
What happens when you place the iPod in DFU mode like I suggested in two of my previous replies.

You are still not giving us much information.
Yu are making this much harder than it has to be.
