Using Final Cut Express I captured video from Canon Mini DV camcorder Optura 300. I noticed a misalignment between audio and video. There is no misalignment on the original tape. Does anybody know how to capture without misalignment in this case?

The camera records audio in either 12 bit / 32khz or 16 bit / 48khz format.

The video editing software is looking for 16 bit and if you recorded with 12 bit. there will be audio drift.

The usual solution is to use an audio editing program and to convert the material to 16bit/48khz. I believe QT Pro can do this as well as iTunes.

I captured a whole 60 min Mini DV tape now, and the misalignment is back. I noticed, when I stopped the capture, by pressing "esc", before the end of the tape, FCE took a few minutes to finalize the capture. This likely is when the alignment was created. When the tape end was reached during capture, FCE did not take any time to finalize it, and misalignment resulted. Next time I capture the whole tape, I plan to interrupt the capture a minute or two before the end, take advantage of the alignment, then capture the rest of the tape and manually align the audio with video. In my case the difference usually is 17 frames. Is there a better way, please?
