Recovery Mode Not Working

So i was told to put my ipod in recovery mode because it got disabled, so i tried about 5 times and it wont work. it doesnt want to go into recovery mode. they say that there will be a screen that looks like a USB port that pops up, but all it does is go to the disabled screen. i hold down the home button while its off and immediatly plug it it to my computer but it does nothing. then on the disabled screen it says to connect to itunes to restore, but when i plug it into itunes it says i need to first unlock my ipod touch, but i cant because its disabled. im so confused now...
