itunes was not properly installed. if you wish to import or burn cd's you need to reinstall itunes

I am getting the following error message after newly installing itunes. "itunes was not properly installed. if you wish to import or burn cd's you need to reinstall itunes"

I tried the suggestions to repair on prior posts but now, when I try to run the Help - Diagnostics iTunes stops responding and shuts down.

I am running Windows 7 x64 and tried the latest iTunes download 3 times and also tried the repair.

Drat ... okay, we'll take a punt on the most likely cause of the message at the moment.

Try solution 3 from the following document:

iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
