I have just installed an apple tv not sure which gen, ?gen2?(model a1427) and it keeps telling me to turn home sharing on in itunes on my mac. The home sharing is on in iTunes. I have a cisco m20 valet plus as a router could this be my issue? thanks

AppleTV 2, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

There's a good chance it is something to do with the router, but usually settings can resolve things, unfortunately settings vary from router to router, was it provided by your ISP.

Yes I know which ports are required but unless you know what you are doing it might be confusing.

Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports

Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.

But if your router was provided by your ISP, you might be better asking them for help.

    Hello Winston,

I have checked my firewall settings on my mac,as per the troubleshooting guide, and they are set up to allow, I am wondering however if it is my router as this cisco m20 valet plus seems to have issues with 10.7.5. My atv is telling me to turn on homesharing but it is already on.

    Thanks

I am trying to check, unfortunately the router came with only the "easy set up key" and my mac can't read it.The key was on a pc before. I have dredged up the old pc and I am checking the firewall settings now, any ideas?
