Lacie Thunderbolt Drive and Thunderbolt to Ethernet
Can anyone tell me how to connect my Lacie Thunderbolt Drive via Thunderbolt to Ethernet cable? I can't see it on my network only locally.

If the drive is a Thunderbolt type then it connects by the thunderbolt port and not on the LAN.
I understand. However, I have Airport Extreme, a Lacie Thunderbolt Drive Thunderbolt only ports - and I'd like to connect it to my Network so I can access it from both my Macbook Pro Retina AND my iMac, which does NOT have thunderbolt connectivity.
I am pretty sure you can not do that. The TB to Ethernet adapter is for connecting ethernet to a Mac computer. you can't use it the other way. The drive has NO software to convert the TB to Ethernet as the Mac computer does.
Not sure what you were thinking. Thunderbolt is thunderbolt and Ethernet is Ethernet and only the 2 will meet with special software.
As far as I know that isn't possible. You would need a computer, such as a Mac Mini, with a Thunderbolt port to then serve the disk to the network.

That's what I thought. That's a bummer - would like to use my 4TB Thunderbolt Drive also as a network drive. Thanks.
Stupid question then and maybe I'm not understanding Thunderbolt other than using the drive on my Thunrderbolt MacBook Pro - which is awesome - but, why would I connect Ethernet to my Mac with thunderbolt to ethernet when i could just connect ethernet to ethernet? What is the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter used for then? Sorry if that's a dumb question.
Tje Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter is used to give a computer with thunderbolt port and extra ethernet plug so that the computer can connect to the network.
There is a directionality to Thunderbolt which precludes some uses that might appear to be possible. For example one user thought he could use a Thunderbolt to USB with the USB connect to his computer and the Thunderbolt connected to the disk. In fact, that is not possible to do.

Gotchya - so if i wanted ethernet connection on my Macbook in case there was no wireless available. Silly - it would be nice to figure out a way to use the Lacie as a network drive - seems that is an impossibility.
There is the Mac Mini solution with it serving the disk to the network.

The new Retina MBPs do not have an Ethernet port. So you can use the USB to Ethernet or since the rMBPs have 2 TB ports Apple came out with TB to Ethernet
