I can't remember my password to install or update programs on my Mac Book. It's locked and I don't have any hint question. Is there any way to recover my password?

For your 2012 MBP, reboot while holding down cmd-R to get to the recovery partition, then go to the Utiltiies menu, launch Terminal, and type

resetpassword

(followed by the return key). You'll be prompted through the password change.

Command + R will RESET your computer, thats the only legit way of unlocking it. There are other ways to do it but they are not legit and they are against the Apple Product Terms. Also doing the non-legit way will take your apple product out of it's warranty.

Ohhh sorry. If your using mountain lion you could do what matt said. It takes you to the Recovery Utility. Go into terminal and type password reset. Also you could login with your apple ID but im not sure how to do that. I contacted Genius Bar they said, it's software and it's free 🙂. They'll do it for you EASILY.

No, it will not erase any data on your computer. Despite what the other poster said, the only thin it "resets" is your password. So you hold down the cmd and R keys as you reboot, keep them held until you see the Apple logo, then release. Don't follow the steps to install or restore OS X, just use the Utilities menu as I mentioned above.

When you boot into Recovery mode, you don't see a menu item named "Utilities" at the top of the screen?
