Works server services, even if I shut down the server software?

I run OSX server (2.2) on an iMac running OSX 10.8.2. I use this computer even for work on it.

If you're asking what I think you are asking, all 'server' processes run in the background, meaning you can do anything you like on the system and it will still serve network clients.

The 'Server' application is only used for configuring, starting and stopping services. It does not need to be running in order for the background services to run.
