Samsung SE-208 DVD Writer. Does this allow DVD's, CD's and games to be played?

Hey everyone.

I just purchased the Samsung Slim Portable DVD Writer SE-208 for my Macbook Air that I received for my birthday, however, I'm a little bit cautious to use it.

My sole purpose for this would be to play DVD's, CD's and games (such as The Sims 3), not to write DVD's etc.

Will this DVD writer still work for my Air for the purposes I need it for?

Don't want to use it and figure out it doesn't work and be unable to return it.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

(Also, if anyone has this and doesn't recommend it, but you do for another external disk drive, please let me know!)

@EilidhMcLeodWere you able to get the DVD writer to work on your Macbook Air?

I also bought the same DVD writer, but my Macbook Air doesn't fully recognize it. I've tried it on another Macbook Air, same problem. My Windows laptop sees the DVD writer and also Windows XP via Virtual Box on my Mac sees it.

The DVD writer is visible in "system information" under "dvd burning", but it's not added to my desktop as a drive.
