I don't know who Kim Komando is (or why I should care, for that matter). I do see her website is littered with anti virus ads. Maybe that tells you something.

If you were using an Andriod or windows device, I would agree. But there isn't anything to use on an iPad, nor is it necessary. You cannot install anything on it that doesn't come from the App store. All Apps are sandboxed preventing anything you install from interacting with otehr apps or the OS except in very limited specific capacities.

The best anti-virus for iOS, is iOS itself. You don't need it. Its not a Windows machine.

Fortunately, there are several effective apps for protecting your tablet from both digital and real-world threats. They're easy to install and can help keep your investment safe.

Lookout (Free; iOS, Android) - Lookout is a free antivirus and anti-spyware app for mobile devices. It can also protect your tablet in the event it is lost or stolen.

You'll be able to back up your contact data or find your phone using GPS location. Lookout for Android offers a premium version for $3 per month that will let you remotely wipe your device and back up photos and call history.

avast! Mobile Security (Free; Android) - The same company that makes one of the best free antivirus suites for PCs also provides protection for Android tablets. avast! Mobile Security can prevent many types of viruses and intrusions at no cost to you.

Oh, I see, we aren't referring to iPads anymore, just tablets in general. In this case, yes, your tablet will need all the protection you can find.

Thank you for your information. I just thought I would copy to you what she wrote but I'm going to go by what you've said for now.

LookOut for iOS does NOT protect against malware. You should go to the app store and read the description. AND the reviews. Personally I wouldn't touch this garbage with a ten foot pole. Frankly, it looks like other than generating SPAM, it doesn't much you can do on the iPad without it.
