in system preferences both the mouse app and bluetooth says my mouse is paired but the mouse tries to pair and turns itself off?

My magicmouse doesn't pair with computer even though system preferences says it is paired. Help?

magic mouse-OTHER, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
