my imac keeps looking for networks

my imac (snow leporad) keeps spinning it's wheel looking for networks when it is already connected to my wifi (Airport Extreme). wifi periodically suddenly stops connecting and I have to turn wifi off (thru imac) and then simply turn it back on to establish a connection again. It is my first wifi listed in "Networks" and I don't have any other networks in the house as well.

Any help is much appreciated!

I just opened my Lion machine>airport utility>preferences, check only monitor base staions I have configured, but you might want to look at the other options and see if experimenting with those settings might help. I usually use SL, which is different, and I'm not all that familiar. Maybe there is some interference in the area that is mobile, I know that when there was a bunch of construction, with cops, ambulances, and who knows what else radio pollution was there, this was across the street from my house. I had multiple issues. When they went away, so did my issues. Wish I could be more help. Here are some links that might have something you can use. Best of luck.
