IPod disabled connect to itunes

My daughter's ipod has a message indicating that the IPod is disabled and needs to be conected to iTunes. This came up after she tried enetering in the wrong password several times. I donwloaded Itunes onto my computer then tried connecting the ipod to it and it is still indicting I need a passcode and the Ipod screen is still stuck with the same message. What should my next step be?
