Can files be transferred to a MacBook from a non-working windows laptop?

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing a MacBook assembled in 2009. The reason being my Compaq laptop had stopped working (doesn't turn on). I know for a fact that the hard drive is good. I want to get my files from this laptop and put it on the MacBook. Is the apple store capable of doing this for me? If it helps, the laptop ran windows vista and the MacBook runs OS Leopard. If you need any more details let me know. Thank you for your time!

If you take the dead PC laptop into a GeekSquad location, they will probably be more than willing to help you remove the old HD and put it into an external enclosure (that they will also gladly sell you). They will probably charge you a little $$ to do it, but once they have done that, you can then just plug the external HD enclosure into your Mac and copy all the files you want from it.
