kernel panic message

I am getting the kernel panic message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button..." when I start my MBP. I have scanned the disk with fsck. The disk checked fine - only report that the disk was modified. I have tried to boot from the OS disk - no luck. I have Lion and Bootcamp win Windows 8 installed. The computer was booting Windows 8 in bootcamp and it locked up. Ever since it keeps locking up on boot.

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

Can get the information from the single user mode startup? I can't get the Mac to boot to follow your instructions. If so, can I write the log to a USB stick and then use my PC (which I am using now to interact with you) to post the information?

Another interesting discovery - - I was in safe mode; I can navigate around the directories using cd and ls. When I typed exit; I received (amoung other normal looking stuff), an error message

SMC::smcReadKeyfiction Error: smcReadData8 failed for key $NUM (kSMCKeyNotFound)

SMC::smcReadKeyfiction Error $NUM kSMCKeyNotFound(0x84) fKeyHashTable=0x0

Previous Shutdown Cause: 3

SMC::smcInitHelper Error: MMIO regMap == NULL - fall back to old SMC mode

NVDANV50HAL loaded and registered

- - - more stuff - - -

Then some NTFS-fs errors including ntfs_restart_page_header_is_valid(): $LogFile version 2.0 is not supported (This Driver supports version 1.1 only.)

MAC Newby Error: I was not clear. I just realized that Safe Mode and Single User mode are not the same. I was incorrectly calling them the same thing. I was using single user mode in my previous reports of errors. I just tried to boot Safe Mode (Hold SHIFT Key). The gear spins and the progress bar moves but only makes it a little more than 1/4 the way then dissapears and the gear stops spinning.

I have a smaller HDD that I used to upgrade to the current drive.

However, I get the same panic message when I boot from my original OS DVD (Press C during power up).

Could the main board video chip be bad. The startup mode with the grey screen looks normal. The single user terminal mode works fine. I can press the option key and get the Grey screen that shows the MAC Volume and the Windows Volume and I can select either one. When I select the Windows disk the screen goes blank and does not boot. When I select the MAC volume the apple appears and the gear spins until the dark grey screen scrolls from the top and the black box with the kernal panic message appears. Could it be that this is the point where the video mode switches and this causes the computer to lock up???

Hardware test will not start from DVD (Snow Leopard Install DVD).

Apple Hardware Test may only be invoked by booting from the grey disc included with your Mac with the words "Apple Hardware Test" or "AHT version xxx" printed on it. Hold the d key while starting from the disc to load AHT.

Some computers that have been upgraded to Lion may be able to use an Internet based version in the same manner, by holding option d.

The tests will only reveal significant faults.

Was able to mount a USB stick in single user mode and get the panic file to my Windows PC.

Here is the file with my Kernel UUID removed.
