Since upgrading to Mavericks, I'm also having this issue with our Intel iMac. It keeps telling me that I don't have permission to save to the HD and applications like Xcel and Pages can't be saved without creating and renaming a copy. I also ran Disk Utility and it gave me the same message about ACLs found but not expected. I repair everything, restart and the issue is right back again.

Now, everything has slowed to a crawl with the pinwheel of death spinning more than I'm using the computer. I had to go to our laptop to get to Apple support because it wouldn't load.

Not sure if it's all related but it is very frustrating.

It's not.

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.

You are going to need more assistance. Please start a new Discussion. This one is over a year old and unrelated to the problems you describe.
