safari and iPhoto not opening

My Macbook Pro takes forever on the gray Apple screen upon start up. Once going, Safari just bounces, and iPhoto says the library needs fixing. When I choose the "repair" option, it still won't open. Also, recently a faint mosquito like sound is coming from it when I turn it on. Just got it in September. Any suggestions before I make a trip to take it in?
