Start up disk full (250GB) - 3 month old computer!

I bought my MacBook Pro with Retina in September and have only added Microsoft word pack, photos and music to it but I keep getting a message that my start up disk is almost full. When I look at the storage it say that I have 16GB music, 165GB Movies, 1,25GB photos, 6 GB Apps and then 222GB other.

Can anyone tell me how I can then find out what this 222GB 'other' is and how I can get rid of it?

Thanks.

In addition to the excellent information that AnaMusic has given you links for, you might download from the Internet OnmiDiskSweeper (free) and open it. It will show all of your files and the respective sizes. This can aid you selecting ones that you may not need and thus deleting then.

An easy way of determining if you actually have a storage issue is to click on the HDD icon on your desktop COMMAND I (as in the letter i). This will generate a display showing the actual space used and what is still available. Ex.
