Time Machine Migration
Can anyone please help with my time machine problem. I partitioned an external hard drive and use one partition for time machine and one for back up using Carbon Copy Cloner. The plan being if my hard drive goes down I get a new one reinstall from backup and keep going where I left off with time machine. The problem I have encountered started when I carried out the usual test for the backup by booting from it but time machine came up with an error stating that there was already too much information on the hard drive. I have 290 Gig on a 500 Gig harddrive and use a 500 Gig partition for backup and a 500 Gig partition for time machine. If I delete the data in the time machine partition it will happily start creating a new time machine backup again so its not a space problem its a wanting to create a new time machine problem on top of the existing one. In other words it is not seeing the time machine backup as belonging to the OS that created it. Next I booted back to my internal hard disk and the same error came up again.
I have tested various combinations and the same thing keeps happening, in summary if the time machine is accessed by the OS that created it on any hard drive other than the one that created it then it tries to create a new backup. Once that action has happened it also does the same thing if I then boot back to the original internal hard drive.
My main concern is that if my hard drive goes down then I'll be able to restore it on a new hard drive ok but the OS will not see the time machine as belonging to it.
Any help appreciated,
Dave.
