iPod Touch 5, switch from Windows to Mac

I'm about to buy an iPod Touch 5 (in a few hours actually) and got to thinking, today I have a Windows laptop but as soon as I have the $$$ I'm getting a MacBook Pro (a few months, so I don't want to wait til I have the MBP to use my iPod). As far as I know the iPod has to be formated for either Windows or Mac, can't be both. So I would have to re-format it to work with Mac which is fine.

What i'm wondering is how do I do that in the smoothes way? On the iPod, the music isn't a problem I have it all on the comp anyways, but all the other stuff like photos, apps, mail and all that... is it possible to do a back-up, format iPod to Mac, then put the back-up back on the iPod? Or do I have to save all the things to my comp first, format, then put it back file by file and re-install all other things?

Thanks, but now I'm more confused and have more questions...

First, It says it's for those who don't have their library, I have mine, I'm gonna move all the files to the new Mac..?

Second, step 1-4 is OK, 5-9 maks no sence to me... I don't buy things from the Store so wouldn't that leave me with an empty device? What about the files from outside the Store and things on the iPod?

Third, what does PhoneView do?

It says the device will be completly erased... Is there a way to back-up EVERYTHING on the iPod to the windows comp before I do any of these steps cos as confused as I am right now something will go wrong and the things that are the most important will disaper... i just know it.
