How can i use th Apple Hardware Test in my macbook pro dual core if the "D" + Power Button doesnt initiate the AHT?

I wanna run the AHT to check for hardware problems in my macbook pro sinc it has been running extremely slow and more often than not freezes upon boot up or when opening any apps after i accidentally dropped it.

I tried shutting down and restarting holding the "D" key down but the AHT doesnt initialize.

Im running on OS Lion updated to os 10.7.5, dual core, 4gb ddr3.

PLEASE HELP..

THANKS!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 13" Dual core 4GB DDR3

All I can suggest is shutting it down and holding down the D key prior to even touching the power button. Or try Option D instead; Apple's docs are mixed up in that respect. In Ye Olde Days, you needed to put the Install DVD in first, but I know for a fact that since the Early 2008 models the AHT was in a hidden corner of the hard drive. And the late model Unibodies are supposed to have an Internet-based fallback alternative; just make sure the Mac is getting adequate connection prior to attempting the AHT.
